About

This is me, Ansley Larsson.

In November of 1980 I was in Minneapolis, Minnesota for about 6 weeks. While I was there, I went to a shopping mall. In the mall was a lovely woman representing the Ukrainian Gift Shop. She had a card table set up and was demonstrating the art of Pysanky Writing which is an ancient Ukrainian (thousands of years old) art that is done on eggshells. Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather! I thought it was the single coolest thing I had ever seen, and I bought two books written by her family members and all the supplies and tools I needed to go home and figure out how to do it.

The more I learned, the more I loved this art. It is so full of history and symbolism.  I wrote many chicken eggs, goose eggs, and Ostrich eggs. I put my work on stands, in glass bowls, I made ornaments and even made lamp bases out of ostrich eggs. Then it happened. In my evolution from one thing to the other, I started making jewelry out of eggshells. I found it. I found the thing that I really loved to make out of the eggs. I started using designs from traditional Pysanky and have evolved from that into using my original designs. This jewelry is not Pysanky, make no mistake about that, but it was Pysanky Writing that led me here.

So, now I make jewelry out of goose eggshells, and I am having more fun than a gaggle of geese!
